How I Pray Is Breathe (2021)
The world renown Trappist monk / activist / artist Thomas Merton once wrote that “no writing on the solitary, meditative dimensions of life can say anything that has not already been said better by the wind in the pine trees.” HOW I PRAY IS BREATHE is a 60-minute meditative film created in that spirit – narrated entirely by silence and the wind in the pine trees – allowing the viewer to immerse oneself in Merton’s hermitage where he spent the last few solitary years of his life and wrote some of his most important works. The film strings together long meditative sights and sounds all captured at Merton’s hermitage during the summer of 2018 and winter of 2019. A companion film to Day of a Stranger.
